Masterpiece Cakeshop, et al. v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, No. 16-111 (S. Ct.) Oral argument scheduled for December 5, 2017.

Each of the parties have attracted an impressive array of advocacy groups who have given voice to their concerns in this case.   In the matter before the Supreme Court, the proprietor of a bakery has asserted that his conscience rights should be recognized, permitting him to decline to provide a custom wedding cake for a same-sex couple.  The State of Colorado and the same-sex couple state that this is not possible:  the public accommodations law demands equal treatment for all in the commercial sphere, and does not admit of the First Amendment speech and religious exceptions that the baker claims are his to assert.

The document provided here is an overview of the positions asserted by the many who have joined in expressing their views about the direction the Supreme Court ought to take.
